grocery shopping, aside from our home mortgage, is my family's biggest monthly cost of living expenseWhenever I was doing my family's grocery shopping at a local grocery store I was seeing that I was spending hundreds of dollars each week. It wasn't just that the grocery store can be more expensive than a wholesale supplier but that I would go home and see that I could only make one or two meals out of what I had! This only helped me understand how dozens of families have told me that it's normal to spend around $800.00/month on groceries! YIKES! Costco wholesale :groceryIt's taken me some time to find my niche with saving us money on a grocery budget as a wife and mother. It goes back to when I started realizing that our dinner meals at home were costing at least $15/night. This is when I decided to put a $4 or less budget on our dinner meals except for special occasions. Many of my friends and Instagram followers wanted to understand how I was doing it! People could not believe that it was possible and I will admit it took a total mindset shift from what I was doing before. I am going to try to do my best to explain the way that I cook in my kitchen now to intern save us a ton of money each month! Unless I am baking or hosting a special holiday feast that I have to prepare for I do not use recipes! I use things in my pantry, freezer, fridge, spice rack and garden when it's in season. I think about things we like and use similar spice ingredients to inspire the flavor of a dish! I taught myself which foods I can use in multiple recipes; ones that can act as a filler! You know, increasing the entres amount of servings! This alone will save you money by helping a product last longer! A simple example of this is we can eat cottage cheese as a snack, I can make lasagna with it and I can add it to an egg scramble! Another great example is we can eat a specific cheese dip as a chip or vegetable snack and we can also use it as the filling inside of a roasted chicken breast! I can roast vegetables and serve them plain. I can also add them to casseroles, egg omelets, soups, quesadillas, tacos, salads, and the list goes on! I have found that when I shop at Costco Wholesale and I only shop in the GROCERY section I spend about $150-$200 each trip every 3-4 weeks! I repeat I ONLY SHOP IN THE GROCERY SECTION!!!! You have to stay focused and enter that big warehouse with a budget and meal planning mindset otherwise you are going to spend $100 more dollars than planned!! I am just guessing but don't you think so? I do recognize that this budget will look different depending on how many members are in a family and certain health conditions can effect the amount people consume too. by popular demand my costco shopping listAfter sharing many Costco Wholesale Grocery hauls over on the @adoptadventure Instagram page people have asked to see what it is that I buy every single trip! Below I have created my current routine shopping list. I will say that this has been our shopping list throughout the wintertime when our garden isn't producing and we aren't experiencing hot sunny BBQ days! My list changes a bit with each season and produce available in store changes too! I hope you found this helpful! Feel free to save or screenshot my shopping list photo!
