Hi ladies! The picky eater- every mama gets at least one. The kind of kid who’s list of approved foods is so small you could count the items on one finger. I get it mama- this stage can be tough but, luckily, I’ve seen the other end of this journey and I learned some tricks along the way. Below are 3 full proof methods that I used to add nutrients to the one item on just about every picky eaters list- the peanut butter sandwich.
Before we get into that, let's talk breads and spreads.
For bread, I chose to have something hearty and nutrient dense. If this is all our kids will eat, then it's our job to make it healthy. This will promote a strong body, a well working brain, and fuller stomach for longer. To put it bluntly, this could result in less tantrums for your little(s). For bread, I prefer Dave’s Killer Bread because it tastes amazing and has great and as a ton of whole grains. If you do nothing else, I highly encourage you to upgrade to this bread. For peanut butter, my family (there is 5 of us) and I agree that Justin’s Peanut Butter is the best. Amazing taste aside, there is no artificial ingredients and ZERO refined sugar. BONUS! Click here to shop the peanut butter I recommend!
1. Flax Seed Meal
I add this seed to everything! Just one tablespoon provides a good amount of protein, fiber and omega-3 fatty acids, in addition to being a rich source of some vitamins and minerals. That means it will fuel your kids brains and bodies for whatever the day has in store for them.
Sprinkle 1 tbsp of flax seed between two slices of bread and nut butter.

2. Hemp seed
Another powerhouse to add to your picky eaters peanut butter sandwich! Hemp seeds contain plenty of protein, healthful fatty acids, and fiber.
Hemp seeds are also a healthful source of vitamin E and minerals, such as calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc.
Sprinkle 1 tbsp of hemp seed between two slices of bread and peanut butter.

If your picky eater eats a lot of peanut butter sandwiches, it can be tempting to throw some jam on there just to mix things up but it’s usually not worth the extra sugar with VERY little nutrition. Instead, try adding some fruit!
Traditionally, bananas are a hit with kids and peanut butter sandwiches but my kids eat a lot of bananas so I try to use this opportunity to introduce other fruits like strawberries!
You can even get the kids involved with the slicing if you’d like to help increase their interest in their lunch. We got this kit from Playful Chef at Christmas and it really helped my daughter feel more in comfortable when dinner was served. Plus the knives aren’t sharp enough to cut skin so I felt safe letting her use them. Its really a win/win. And who doesn’t want that?
