Hello there! Most of you have probably seen me cooking away on a cast iron pan in my kitchen through your Instagram application!

tasting table insight using cast iron products
Recently I shared a spaghetti bake where I cooked the beef + vegetables + spaghetti sauce in the same cast iron pan (shown under $20 below) then transferred the entire thing into the oven topped with cheese and parsley to turn it into a bake! My boys loved it so much there were not any leftovers to be found! This mama loved it because owning the cast iron made this dish simplified to cook- straight from the stove top into the oven she went! Another reason I love cooking with a cast iron product is because the entire thing heats up so if dinner can't be served right away (dad's not home from work yet), the meal will stay plenty hot! Owning a cast iron pan and cooking it over a smokey BBQ adds a whole other dimension of flavor to something like taco meat. It also gives me a break here and there from cooking because dad likes to cook on the old BBQ!
Each time after I share cooking a meal with a cast iron pan, I receive messages from people asking how I clean it or care for it. We have owned the same cast iron (the one shown in my pictures) for a couple of years. It has seen a camp fire pit, the BBQ, our stove top and oven hundreds of times!
How I care for our cast iron:
Wash the cast iron with water and soap (I use a natural soap called Thieves) after using it.
Dry the cast iron off with a paper towel.
Take any kind of cooking oil (I most often use Olive Oil) and use the same paper towel you used to dry the cast iron off with, to then rub a light layer of oil all around the pan. The trick here is you never want your cast iron to be dry especially if you are like us and want to wash it after each use.
Buy a Cast Iron product or two for yourself or to gift to someone you love! These pieces are my family's favorite!
ENJOY & happy holidays!
